NEW ERA UNIVERSITY (NEU), in association with the Russian Embassy in the Philippines, conducted its first-ever Russian Film Festival on March 6-7, 2020 at the University Hall. The event aims to strengthen the relations between the Philippines and Russia through Russian film.

The Russian Film Festival at NEU showcased two movies, one of which is titled T-34. The film is loosely based on a true story during World War II about a group of Soviet soldiers who escaped a Nazi concentration camp using a T-34 tank. The T-34 was one of the most advanced tanks on the battlefield during the war. The next movie is an action-fantasy film titled Guardians of the Night. It tells the story of Pasha, who saves a young woman from a group of powerful assailants that led him to discover a world of supernatural beings living in the shadows.

Russian Embassy Cultural Attaché Denis Karenin expressed his gratitude to the NEU students for appreciating their films. “The main problem in the international relations [between] Philippines and Russia is [the lack of] cultural awareness. Seeing each other’s movies is one way to correct that problem,” Karenin said.
