Russian Armed Forces Day Celebrated for the first time in the Philippines

THE RUSSIAN ARMED FORCES DAY was celebrated for the first time here in the Philippines on February 24, 2020 at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City. The event was attended by different representatives, diplomats, and officials from the Armed Forces of the Philippines.  New Era University was among the invited delegation in the event, with NEU Glee Club singing the Russian national anthem. 

“We just established our defense office at the embassy almost one year ago, and this is the first-ever celebration in the Philippines,” said Natalia Linovitskaya, the press attaché of the Russian Embassy, in an interview. His Excellency Igor Khovaev, the Russian Ambassador to the Philippines, underscored the relevance of the event.  According to him, “It is really [a] significant event… The armed forces of our countries can and should be reliable partners and close friends simply because we have common enemies: terrorism, national crime, drug trafficking, piracy…” H.E. Khovaev said, “I think we, Russians, and you, Filipinos, have a lot in common because you, Filipinos, also respect your armed forces.”  He also expressed Russia’s full support to the modernization of the Philippine armed forces: “We fully support your forces—we are right here to help your country increase your defense capabilities…”  

Russia, throughout the years, has established a formidable and well-experienced armed forces. Today, it is known to have one of the most sophisticated and advanced military equipment in the world. The Russian government wishes that the Philippines continue to prioritize the development of its military to counter internal and external threats. The Russian ambassador further stated, “We are open to discuss and realize any option for our defense cooperation… there are no restrictions.” In the end, the embassy gave thanks to all the participants of the event with the hope for more joint endeavors between Russia and the Philippines.
