Panama ambassador returns, bids farewell to NEU

On the afternoon of October 16, 2019, New Era University (NEU) officials and students, together with the Eagle Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) staff, gathered at the NEU main building lobby, waving flags of the Republic of Panama, to once again welcome its Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Philippines, H.E. Rolando Guevara Alvarado.
The visitor from Panama, who formally forged friendship with the university in July 2017, is the first ambassador from Latin America to visit NEU. His return to the university this October aimed at promoting further his country and bid farewell to his friends in the Philippines, as his term would end. Dr. Nilo L. Rosas, university president, stated that the ambassador is already close to the heart of NEU.
During the forum at the University Hall, the ambassador thanked the NEU and EBC for their welcome. “I would like to start my introduction today by expressing my appreciation to the team of New Era University and Eagle Broadcasting Corporation for extending such invitation to this forum,” he said.
As he continued his speech, he expressed his desire for the audience to have a deeper knowledge about Panama. In between his speech, he showed various videos that emphasize the beauty of Panama as a nation. He also mentioned about the similarities of the Philippines and Panama when it comes to history, culture, and geography.
“In other countries, one person can see one bird. But in Panama, one person can see twenty birds!” – said the ambassador pertaining to the rich biodiversity of Panama. After this, he discussed the technological and economic advances in his country. He also gave information about the expansion of one of the world’s most important trading routes and man-made engineering marvels, the Panama Canal.
His speech ended with the hope that the relationship between Panama and Philippines deepen and wished that the next ambassador that will succeed him would also experience the warm welcome and appreciation that the NEU community has given to him.
After the ambassador’s speech, Atty. Theoben Jerden C. Orosa, EBC Chairman and member of the NEU Board of Trustees, reciprocated the appreciation of the visitor. He expressed optimism with the event to pave way to more opportunities and partnerships with the Republic of Panama in the future.
